This past weekend I went to my twentieth formal at Ripon. Yes, I did all of the math* and counted it up. I have been to twenty formals. Alas, this is the end of an era. I’ve decided that at this point I must retire my heels, dresses, and handbags in pursuit of a job and my very own apartment. While it is sad, I am happy to have spent time with my Alpha Delta Pi sisters catching up and celebrating a Kentucky Derby themed formal.
Sam and I spent a bit of time prior to formal catching up, grabbing dinner, and watching the Kentucky/Louisville game. (Thank goodness Kentucky, I’m so proud of y’all!) We showed up after dancing had commenced and immediately I ran into some of my most favorite people — Sara and Lexi. Then, just as I had confessed to Sam on the car ride there, Dr. Jones came on — just what I had wished. I hustled out to the dance floor and jumped around with all of my sisters. It was great to see so many different generations of sisters there — six years of graduating classes from Delta Pi were represented, which was fantastic — including two from 2010, Melissa and I!

Although Sam and I only stayed for a few hours, I got in as much dancing as possible, and I even convinced Sam to get out on the dance floor for a few songs. It was an enjoyable night and the best way to round out my formal career.

*For those of you who want to know the math, I have been to ten Alpha Delta Pi formals and ten Sigma Chi formals. I did not attend the Sigma Chi formal in Spring of 2007 nor the Alpha Delta Pi formal in fall of 2011. I only re-wore a dress once. I borrowed a number of dresses and shoes over the years, however.
IT WAS A DERBY THEME?
Where, my dear, is your HAT? That’s the point of the derby!
