Come See What the Brewers Are Doing, Come Cheer a Superstar

To get in on the craziness that is Wisconsin athletics at this time, Sam and I went to the last Brewers game of the season Wednesday night.  It was amazing for a few reasons: this year’s team is the winningest team in franchise history, I got to see my sisters at the game, and Sam and I had great seats Club level.  (PS, thanks George and Sara for the tickets!)

The Brewers beat the Pirates, and ended up getting the second seed in the NLDS playoffs.  It’s so exciting for the Brewers to make it this far and do so well — they haven’t had this high of a playoff seed in my lifetime!

I had a delicious pulled pork sandwich at the game, a fantastic strawberry long island, and had quality time at Miller Park.  Sad that I won’t be back until April (Sam and I scored free tickets for next season last night!), but it’ll be worth the wait.  I just know it.

Love is, Is What I Got

It is a bit shocking how busy I have been this academic year so far.  I feel as though I spend more hours a week in a library than in my apartment (including sleep), and I am always reading lecture online, catching up in online readings, or trying to get through readings in my course packet.  Even though I am so. freaking. busy. I am loving every single portion of graduate school this year.

Last Friday, I wanted to meet up with my sisters in Oshkosh for dinner.  I was going to be in Ripon anyway, and thought it would be nice to see them.  As a last minute surprise, my cousins (and their two adorable children) came along with.  I loved my delicious meal, full of great food and wine, but loved spending time with my family even more.

I took a weekend break to see Sam in Ripon for Derby Days.  It’s Sigma Chi’s huge national philanthropy event that benefits Children’s Miracle Network.  I got to see so many of my friends there, and I had a great time.  Unfortunately, Sam was busy facilitating a Mission 365 event for Sigma Chi, but I still was able to see him momentarily this weekend.

It wouldn’t be the Derby without Matt.

This week hasn’t been the best.  My toilet broke at my apartment (don’t ask me how it did, I still have no idea), I dropped my favorite perfume on the ground and it shattered (but my room smells really good now), and I just haven’t gotten the sleep that I need at night.  Regardless of these situations, I have really been happy.  I try to see the good in everything, and I know that all of this hard work right now is going to pay off.

I’m getting anxious for the next chapter in my life, but I am starting to take note of that and keep myself focused on what is occurring right now.  Trying to stay sane and remind myself that I need to enjoy the now instead of focusing on the future.

Except the future involves apple picking, baking apple pie, pumpkin carving, and a corn maze.  That’s worth focusing on. :)

Well I Got Rhythm With a Solid Beat

Oh my goodness.  It’s been a long time since I’ve posted thanks to the grand storm that is September.  School started, school is in the middle of going, and school has taken over my life.

It may be true that I am very dedicated to school at this point in my life, but I am loving every single second of it.  My classes are fantastic, I am happy with the new friends I have made this year, and I feel like I have really grown up into an adult.

I’m taking a break from homework at Starbucks, and the caffeine I just drank has kicked in already.  Hopefully that means more productivity later on this evening as well.  I am in the middle of my 639 lecture notes, for Information Literacy Pedagogy.  It’s a brilliant class devised to understand how to teach library instruction, whether it is for a semester or a single workshop.  It has been good for me to understand what makes a good teacher, how one can teach different students all with separate learning abilities at the same time, and it really does express the challenges of academic librarianship.  644, Digital Tools, Trends, and Debates, is one of my favorite classes this fall.  It delves into the topic of technology, but is not an instruction session.  The class does a great job of teaching how to keep up with new technologies as well as which are best used in libraries.  I am looking forward to understanding more about information commons and electronic books as I make a plan for an information commons within a library and actually create two electronic books.  622 is my favorite class, hands down. Children’s Literature has NOTHING to do with my future career, but it has been a great class for me to enjoy reading and to get some much needed relaxing reading done within my week.  My last class of the semester EPS/GWS 560 is Gender in Education.  It is not a SLIS course, but it does definitely apply to how different genders learn and the different challenges they face.  I am in love with the topics we are researching, and I cannot wait to hammer out what I plan on writing my research paper on this fall.

Wheew.  There is all of the information on my classes.  Other than that, I’ve been busy working.  I love all of my jobs, and I have been taking tons of time to get different projects accomplished this fall.  Let’s hope it all continues to run smoothly.

I have been taking time for myself in all of this as well.  I spent time with Sam for the past two weekends to unwind together, although yesterday we spent hours together doing homework.  It was funny how for hours we sat at separate computers, each with headphones on, working hard.  We broke from our hard work for some delicious pizza delivered from Roadhouse in Ripon.  It was such a perfect date night full of productivity.

Happy Monday, all.  I’ll be back with another update this week.  I promise!
