Update of Room Re-Do

The room re-do is completed…for now.  Half of the room got a massive update, which is extremely exciting.  However, I’m done sewing for the foreseeable future.

Here is the dresser area in my room now.  I got the mirror from Target for $5 and used a key rack to hang my large, chunky necklaces on so I can see them easier (and not have the clutter in my jewelry box).  I got the small dish from Anthropologie for $10 and the towel there as well on clearance for $4.  The towel brought in the color scheme over to the dresser, and the bowl is perfect to toss in the jewelry that I wear on a daily basis.  Adding the mirror into the corner of my room that does not have light brightened up the area so much.

Here are the two pillowcases I made for my bed.  Fabric is all from JoAnn.  I sewed buttons on to the back to close up the large slit for the pillows to go into.  I did not create holes for the buttons to go into — I figured it was easier to cut off the buttons and sew them back on instead of worrying about the fabric fraying.

Here is the completed bedset!  The backmost pillows are covered in the pillowcases that came with the sheet set I used to make the duvet cover.  I found a fantastic yellow fabric to add pop to my bed.  And the old cream pillow is still there as well.  You can see the navy stripe on the outside of the duvet as well as the adorable ties that are at the bottom of the bed now.  Plus, the addition of the bedskirt really added so much to the bed.

Here, you can see the new side table I got, as well as the fake leather storage box underneath.  All of my Europe adventure stuff is going to hang out there until the moment comes to actually go to Germany and Spain!  I love having the darker furniture to break up all of the white/light wood in the room.

My desk area also got some love, thanks to my friend Sarah at Simply Step Back.  She had an idea to take a frame, put fabric inside, and use it as a memo board.  I used the same yellow fabric from the toss pillows, and again the bright color pops over on that side of the room too.

All of the home work has benefitted my life so much, but now it’s time for me to relax, catch up on sleep, and get homework done before Spring Break!

Love Is All You Need

Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.” — Chinese Proverb

Holy cow: I’ve read 478 pages for one of my classes. The best thing is, I’m done reading for the semester for that class. I’m happy to have completed that — and I’m almost done with readings for another class. Whoo hoo.

I’m already looking at summer. Aside from the Germany class I’m taking with LIS, I’ll be taking Story Telling and Oral Literature as well as Students in Higher Education. I’ll be taking eight credits this summer, and I’m so excited to be in Madison this summer, sailing, on the Terrace, and having a fantastic day.

I had a fantastic Valentine’s weekend. Friday, Sam and I went to Brocach for happy hour and appetizers. We then exchanged presents, and then went off to see No Strings Attached at High Point. After the movie ended, I wanted a little bit of adventure, so Sam and I drove up to the Capitol to take some snowy, romantic photos.

Saturday we watched the Badgers defeat the Buckeyes, ran around State Street, and I crafted. Then we went to dinner at Cafe Porta Alba. Came back to the house after amazing gnocchi, pizza, and tiramisu. Watched SNL for a bit, and crashed.

Sunday was extremely lazy. Loved catching up on sleep. I finished crafting, watched Fever Pitch with Sam, and saw him off.

Fever Pitch has a special meaning to Sam and I. We’re huge baseball fans, and we both root for the Red Sox in the AL. When we were first getting to know one another, we talked about watching the movie together in the future. But then, in a moment of realization, the two of us started watching the movie instantly. We cuddled together, venturing off on the relationship we have now. I am so happy we started watching the movie when we did, and in turn began our relationship too.

I Have My Heart Locked Up, Locked Up So Tight

“Hair brings one’s self-image into focus; it is vanity’s proving ground.  Hair is terribly personal, a tangle of mysterious prejudices.” — Shana Alexander

I feel like Jim Halpert right now.  Remember when he gets his hair cut in season four, and Andy Bernard calls him “big haircut” instead of “big tuna?”  I just got three inches chopped off of my hair now, and I feel as though I should call myself big haircut.

The new haircut signifies that grown-up me, and I did splurge and get some good Aveda products that help straighten my hair nicely and smoothly without the aid of a straight iron.  It’s also allowing me to act more grown up and to take a bigger responsibility for life, and everything that entails….whatever I that means.

I was able to start volunteering with PAVE this week, and it has been life changing.  I am so fortunate to have met such fantastic young men and women devoted to the cause and the movement, and I am just excited to get more and more involved while a student at UW.  This all goes towards a goal of helping create a PAVE student org, or helping to advise one, wherever I end up working in a year and a half.  Big goals, I know, but as I said, it changes lives.  It’s been a positive impact on my life lately, and I cannot thank PAVE enough for that.  To check out more about PAVE’s national organization go here. The national organization was created by a UW student, and PAVE is in its tenth year of existence…and has come a LONG way!

I was wrong about London.  I am not going to study at King’s College or do any of those tours…BECAUSE I AM GOING TO GERMANY INSTEAD!  I’m going through SLIS, an am excited to go with my classmates around Germany to see the Gutenberg printing press and Bible.  After Germany, I’ll be trotting around Europe, hopefully going to Paris and London for a week or so (total).  It’s going to be a fantastic summer excursion, and I am thrilled to be going abroad finally!

I want to count how many pages I’ve had to read this semester, but I’ve been too busy reading to actually sit down and do it.  Boo.
